Black Rutile Included Quartz from Alaska
Mined at “Chets Mine”
400 miles North of Fairbanks
Wiseman/Coldfoot in the Brooks Range
A friend of ours who was prospecting for gold brought this unique quartz to TJ’s. They were not familiar with quartz and came to TJ’s for some guidance. They told us that they were walking down the creek, and they looked up and saw a crack in the wall of the mountains and went up and checked it out. Here is the photo of the crack in the wall, better known now as “Chet’s Mine.”
The following photo is a typical group of crystals that come from the mine. There is a yellow tint on some of the crystals, which give them a “gold” look. The black rutile is difficult to photograph, but they are very fine black needle like crystals.
TJ’s is the sole supplier of these crystals and they are in short supply as the mine is in the “glacier” belt and there is only a few times the mine is exposed. TJ’s carries several sizes of these crystals, please call or email for details.
